  • Plan budgets with flexibility for potential mid-2026 price adjustments
  • Contact your Microsoft education account team or CSP partner for the latest information
  • Consider early renewal strategies if your agreement expires in mid-2026, pending clarity on education pricing

  • Over 1,100 new features released across Microsoft 365, Security, Copilot, and SharePoint in the last year

What This Means for Your Organization

Budget Impact

For a mid-sized organization with 100 users on Microsoft 365 E3, the annual impact would be approximately:
  • Current cost: $36 × 100 × 12 = $43,200/year
  • New cost: $39 × 100 × 12 = $46,800/year
  • Annual increase: $3,600
Organizations with frontline workers face particularly steep increases—a 25-33% bump in costs for F-series licenses.

Timeline Considerations

  • If your agreement renews before July 1, 2026, you’re protected by your current pricing
  • If your agreement renews after July 1, 2026, expect the new pricing at renewal
Most Enterprise Agreement (EA) customers will see increases when their 3-year term comes up for renewal.

4 Steps You Can Take to Get Ahead

1. Assess Your Current Licensing

Review your current Microsoft 365 subscriptions and calculate the financial impact of these changes on your organization.

2. Optimize Your License Mix

Now is the perfect time to audit your environment:
  • Are you paying for licenses that aren’t being used?
  • Do all users need E3/E5, or could some be on lower-cost plans?
  • Can you right-size frontline worker licenses?

3. Evaluate CSP Flexibility

If you’re currently on an Enterprise Agreement, these price increases combined with the elimination of volume discounts (November 2025) may make CSP a more attractive option:
  • Flexible terms: Choose annual or monthly commitments instead of rigid 3-year contracts
  • Regular optimization: Adjust licenses quarterly or annually to match actual usage
  • Partner support: Get strategic guidance on license optimization and cost management

4. Plan Your Budget

Start incorporating these increases into your 2026-2027 IT budget planning now. Waiting until renewal time could leave you scrambling to find budget. The trend is clear: Microsoft is moving toward simplified, cloud-first pricing while monetizing AI investments. Organizations that stay informed and plan proactively will be best positioned to manage these changes.
