Scott HarrisScott Harris joined the Managed Solution team as a Senior Systems Engineer on May 20, 2015. He was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and grew up on the peninsula in Redwood City. Scott attended Sequoia High School, which offered the first computer programming class in district history. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's computer science program in 1978 and moved back to the Bay Area to work in the burgeoning computer industry a few years later. In 1985, Scott landed a job at NASA/Ames Research Center's National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Comples (NFAC), one of the largest wind-tunnel research facilities in the world. PDP-11/70 front-end systems running RMS and VAX/VMS post-processing systems were used there. Booting the PDP-11 was done by flipping a row of paddle switches on the front of the computer chassis in the bit-pattern for the boot-address. These computer systems filled two rooms, along with the controls for the wind tunnel mechanical equipment. Scott worked at NASA for 11 years as a software support engineer, and later developed a wind-tunnel data acquisition and analysis program on the Mac using the LabView graphical programming language.
In the early 1990's Scott came down to San Diego to present a paper on his LabView Data Acquisition System (LDAS) at the IEEE Conference. He fell in love with San Diego, and in 1996 relocated his family for a job at Qualcomm. He worked at Qualcomm in the networking department as a software developer writing web-based and backend reporting tools for internal customers in Java and Perl. Eventually, Qualcomm began to favor 3rd party software over in-house developed code, and Scott assumed the role of application engineer, writing smaller integration software to tailor the 3rd party products to suit Qualcomm's custom requirements. Authentication, Monitoring (including SCOM) and Application Performance Management servers were his main areas of expertise.
During this time Scott was an avid bicyclist, commuting 25 miles per day for several years. He is also an accomplished musician, playing several instruments including guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. His current favorite instrument is the harmonica because it is so portable. He wrote a book on the harmonica at http://www.theharpguy.com. Scott also enjoys playing craps. He has written several simulation programs to test his systems. The results of these prove that there is no such thing as a winning system, only ones that let you lose money more slowly. Scott rarely travels, but he did spend a summer in Mexico as an exchange student, and 3 weeks in Turkey in 2010 for his honeymoon.
In 2015, after 19+ years at Qualcomm, Scott's position at Qualcomm was eliminated and this led to Scott's timely and fortunate new association with Managed Solution. "I felt at home immediately, here, and truly appreciate the special opportunity to work with such a talented and experienced group of engineers, support staff and managers," says Scott.
Please join us in welcoming Scott Harris to the Managed Solution team!

If you know of a good book series I want to know about it," says Vanessa. Right now she is listening to The Lord of the Rings(again), The Eye of the World and A Song of Ice and Fire. Managed Solution and Just In Time “Geek-Up” College Bound Foster Youth

Learn how College Bound and Just in Time Foster Youth are enable young adults to pave their way into universities and streamline their career success.

San Diego, CA –June 22, 2015

For six years now, Managed Solution has supported transitioning foster youth in the Just in Time College Bound Program by donating thousands of dollars of hardware and software solutions to help students excel in college, along with providing the help desk services they may need on their journey through higher education.

Over the past few months, Managed Solution, a highly honored and tenured managed services company and pioneer in managed, utility-based cloud computing, has been prepping laptops with imaging applications and security updates to prepare them to be distributed to youth at the Annual College Bound Award Day, June 20, 2015.

Just In Time for Foster Youth is a local non-profit that engages a caring community to help transitioning foster youth achieve self-sufficiency and well-being. Their College Bound Program delivers essential resources and encouragement for youth attending college.

Participating youth connect with potential lifelong mentors and successful JIT College Bound alumni to receive laptops and printers, learn valuable tips on money management, legal matters and practical purchases, and pair up with a JIT volunteer shopper to buy essential dorm furnishings and school supplies.

“Currently, I’m proud to say we are servicing over 400 local foster youth who overcame challenges to successfully begin a new life chapter as college students and continue their path to become confident, capable and connected.”

  • Jennell Mott, business operations manager & community relations, Managed Solution.

Volunteers, sponsors and youth gathered at the University of San Diego on June 20, for the College Bound Award Day. This event is where foster youth College Bound members receive their laptops, printers, back packs and shopping cards to go dorm supply shopping.

The Managed Solution team was honored to distribute laptops to over 65 youth, who received essential resources to help them succeed in their first year in college.

“It is such a heart-warming experience to see these youth who have faced so much before the age of 18 feel like they now have a support system and family called the JIT community,” says Mott.

“Just in Time is an outstanding local organization that is making a difference in the lives of the foster youth in our community,” said Sean Ferrel, chief executive officer at Managed Solution. “As a local provider of technology services and solutions, we feel strongly about being involved in the community and we are proud to be able to continue to help further the cause of this great organization.”

About Managed Solution

Managed Solution is the premier provider of outsourced IT support and managed services for small to large size businesses. Founded in 2002, the company quickly grew into a market leader and is recognized as one of the fastest growing IT Companies in Southern California.

Managed Solution continues to deliver award-winning services paired with leading business technologies to assist clients in running their business efficiently.

June 17, 2015 - Managed Solution, a highly honored and tenured managed services company and pioneer in managed, utility-based cloud computing, recently announced its partnership with SHI, the leader in software licensing. The partnership allows Managed Solution and SHI to combine their teams unique skillsets to deliver a holistic technology business solution that optimizes the efficiency of their IT spend with a scalable, consumption based model.

Representatives at both companies say they are excited to take a long-standing informal partnership to the next level.

“This partnership allows technology business consumers to benefit from the purchasing power and expertise of SHI when it comes to licensing and hardware solutions while providing another level of technology consulting by Managed Solution’s engineering experts so customers can leverage their businesses current technology,” said Sean Ferrel, CEO of Managed Solution. ”With Managed Solution’s support, all-encompassing technology solutions will be more easily understood and adopted by the business decision makers of today.”

Ferrel said Managed Solution will work with SHI and its customer base to create roadmaps for the future where cloud based utility models and operational spends converge. “Customers today are no longer working with simple infrastructures containing servers and workstations,” said Ferrel. “Organizations are challenged by looking at business processes and how best to automate their daily lives using technology tools sold by the manufacturer and its partners.”

Ferrel explained that when the impact of these tools are not completely understood, businesses often times don’t implement them and waste valuable money on unused self-ware. “Managed Solution will help accelerate the adoption of these tools by providing business outcome conversations with these customers so their technology investment is strategic to the business.”

Ferrel believes the combined efforts of Managed Solution and SHI will help accelerate understanding and adoption of the cloud utility model which will be a mainstay in businesses going forward.

This is just one type of partnership offered by Managed Solution’s Channel Partner Program. Managed Solution is also working with smaller Managed Service Providers as an extension of their IT services delivery team. “We can either work at the highest level to architect and design for our partner or provide side by side U.S. Based 24/7 helpdesk services to meet the demands of a growing partner organization, said Ferrel. “Businesses should focus on what they do best and leverage their trusted partners to step in so customers can receive excellent services and solutions.”

Managed Solution's corporate culture believes in striving to be the best technology based company by investing in their top assets; their people. The company culture operates like a baseball team, leadership acting as coaches for a team of players that contribute to make customers happy.
In May Managed Solution introduced a new program, Home Run Derby. This program provides fun incentives for their engineers to fulfill Microsoft certifications by using a customized incentive path with a baseball theme in mind. The program is structured to give individuals a customized plan that specially aligns with their daily technical skills, as well as a plan for teams to earn points and money for successfully passing Microsoft certification exams. Managed Solution announces when an engineer hits a homerun and moves up in stats. Their Home Run Derby internal SharePoint site updates this information so engineers and other employees could see weekly highlights and congratulate one another on their progress.
Since the program launched only a few weeks ago, six successful exam certifications have been completed and seven are scheduled for this month. Certifications help engineers grow professionally and as well as help Managed Solution grow as a company.
