Sierra College is a public community college and is part of the Sierra Joint Community College District, which covers over 3,200 square miles and serves Placer, Nevada and parts of El Dorado and Sacramento counties.

The Challenge

Sierra College, a public community college in California, with a population of around 20,000 students and hundreds of faculty staff, faced a challenge. They needed to provide the campus community with a single solution that would allow both students and faculty the ability to access their e-mail from anywhere, at any time, on any device. It was essential to achieve this while still ensuring security, meeting FERPA compliancy requirements and reducing the load on their internal IT staff. The college also wished for an SSO (Single Sign-On) solution to access both email and the campus portal whilst reducing their internal IT help desk tickets.
